Typing Speed Test

Thirty seconds on common English words. The timer starts on your first keystroke - accuracy counts.

How the typing test works

You get a stream of common English words and 30 seconds from your first keystroke. Type each word and press space to move on. Correct characters are counted toward your WPM (one word = 5 characters), so sloppy typing lowers your score even if your fingers are flying. Your accuracy percentage is shown alongside your final speed.

WPM benchmarks

Average typists land around 40-45 WPM. Office professionals who type all day usually sit at 50-70. Above 80 WPM you are faster than roughly nine out of ten people, and 100+ is genuinely elite territory. If you have never learned touch typing, that single skill is worth more than any amount of raw practice.

What is a good typing speed?

The average is around 40-45 WPM. Above 60 is good, 80+ is fast, and 100+ puts you in roughly the top few percent of typists.

How is WPM calculated?

One word is standardized as 5 characters including spaces. We count correctly typed characters, divide by 5, and scale to a full minute. Mistakes do not count, so accuracy directly affects your score.

How do I type faster?

Learn touch typing finger placement, stop looking at the keyboard, and practice 10-15 minutes daily. Accuracy first - speed emerges from clean keystrokes.
