Sequence Memory Test
Tiles flash in order. Repeat the pattern. Every level adds one more step - and the playback gets faster.
How the sequence test works
A pattern plays out on a 3x3 grid, starting with a single tile. Repeat it by clicking the tiles in the same order. Each level replays the whole sequence with one new step added to the end, and the flashes speed up as you climb. One wrong tile ends the run.
Strategy: stop memorizing tiles
The players who reach level 15+ are not remembering individual tiles - they are remembering shapes. Corners make an L, a diagonal makes a slash, three tiles in a row make a line. Convert the sequence into a path drawn across the grid and your capacity roughly doubles.
What is a good sequence memory score?
Most people fail around level 8. Level 12+ puts you in roughly the top 10% of players, and level 20+ is exceptional.
How do people remember long sequences?
Chunking. Instead of nine separate tiles, strong players remember three groups of three, often as shapes or paths across the grid.
Does this test working memory?
Yes - visuospatial working memory, the system you use to remember a route someone just showed you on a map. It is very trainable.
